Our
Community is Your Community - Success
Begins Here
Today,
Nicaragua is a experiencing a definitive
economic boom, but many Nicaraguans
are left behind due to a substantial
lack of social development. At the
core of this problem is a significant
lack of adequate professional job
training and schooling . At Laguna
S.A. we believe that it is important
to enrich the inhabitants of the communities
in which we invest. A resort community
itself is not a stand-alone entity.
Its success is driven by the efforts
of the people at the heart of the
surrounding communities.
Consequently,
Laguna S.A. is fully committed to
working with communities and local
non-profits to provide adequate resources
to make a change in the lives of those
who desire it. In our efforts to provide
job training and schooling for our
“empleos”, we enrich individual
Nicaraguan lives one by one, while
also improving the quality of life
for their families and indirectly
those in the surrounding towns and
cities. In return, Los Congos employs
professionally trained men and women
who are subsequently critical assets
to the short and long term sustainability
of our resort community.
In
addition to the aforementioned, Los
Congos requires all subcontractors
to hire and train a certain number
of local residents. Over time, this
“ripple effect” will have
much more substantial impact than
any individual resource we could provide,
as local people will train other local
people in trades that lead to life-long
employment. Nicaraguan people are
ready to work but have limited opportunity
because they lack the training. Laguna
S.A is committed to making a change
and we feel education is the key to
a successful future.
As
a rule, Laguna S.A. is also fully
committed to the purchase and utilization
of construction materials that have
originated here in Nicaragua. When
a product is produced and sold locally,
there is no question that the monies
spent have a direct impact on the
local communities. In addition to
this impact of the local economy,
the world benefits from reduced transport
pollution, while the buyer benefits
from reduced material and labor costs.
Today,
Laguna S.A. is involved in many community
outreach programs designed to impact
local communities through its youth.
Because the average age in Nicaragua
is twenty-one years old, it is important
to help the youngest generation develop
the skills they need to enrich their
lives. That is why we work very closely
with Proyecto Laguna a non-profit
organization that seeks to increase
the coverage and quality of education
in the Diria area. They have funded
and worked on many social development
and local community projects in this
area.
